Revenge of “Rapucinni’s Daughter”? North Korea Nuclear Rising Power in the Eye of Five
“Give me thy breath, my sister, for I am faint with common air.” – Rappaccini’s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
West gave birth to the Atom. But it died a cruel death in the East. Atomic bombing and fall of Japan led to the partition of Korea – 38th Parallel.
Only natural that in time, Japan would give birth to a ‘nuclear’ daughter, Fukushima. But she too is no more.
By stark contrast, in the Democratic People Republic of Korea (DPRK), a Father’s legacy may be as strong as his Daughter’s force, foresight and determination. Indeed, if 2022 was the ‘year of the nuke’ for DPRK, the decades that follow may too be that of Kim Yo Jong.
Sung-Yoon Lee holds a distinctive but simplistic view. Lee sees her as The Sister: North Korea’s Kim Yo Jong, the Most Dangerous Woman in the World.
Lee’s background, noted scholar of Korean and East Asian studies and a specialist on North Korea is by no means doubted. What is in question is Lee’s chosen point of reference, the brother Kim Jong Un.
If one is to critique fairly, best she be measured by her own merits and not simply the sister of a brother. Of course, it is not surprising to find a male insist in qualifying a female by a man’s measure. Lee, if that be the case, patronize but with that of a higher male rank.
Ideal vantage point is to refer to Kim Yo Jong as the daughter of North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il. Lady ‘Medusa’ she is not. Yet, is she not as a nuclear plant deadlier than “Rapucinni’s Daughter?”
As to Lee’s description of “Most Dangerous Woman in the World,” it does beg the question: Who are these other dangerous women in the world?
Alas, men in this world judge discriminately. Women as Countries not aligned with the West tend to be seen as third class citizens or out-right ostracized.
If by describing Kim Yo Jong as “dangerous,” does Lee infer to North Korea’s rising nuclear power or Kim Yo Jong’s personage? If the latter, Lee has resorted to ‘judging a book by its cover.” Shall we too judge his book fittingly?
However, if by ‘dangerous’ Lee refers to DPRKs rising nuclear power, then by all means the world has judged the physicist and ‘peace’ advocate Albert Einstein wrongly. And more to the point, failed to fairly critique the “father of the atomic bomb” Robert Oppenheimer as the most dangerous man in the world.
Manhattan Project is no more but what does exist is the EYE of Five, the United States. Or, as the club of five males refers to itself, The Five Eyes (FVEY).
EYE of Five
The Five Eyes (FVEY), let’s see it for what it is, an outdated spoof club. Like NATO, the US along with Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand, or EYE of Five, have long contracted Alphabet agencies to work one operation or another globally.
Canada, like the Mexican 3rd Amigo, is irrelevant. Brit King rules the Aussies down under and the ‘New’ Sea land down further. Or, what the US calls an outback prison/mine and an island. Aussies, by the way, is the British private security company G4S still contracted for the operation of two private prisons in Australia?
Australia and New Zealand’s proximity to South Pacific Islands may have served their watchful ‘eyes’ purpose in the aftermath of an Atomic World War II. Still, their surveillance of Vietnam did little to help the Americans. Nam beat them badly.
But in time, space exploration, satellites, and World Wide Web gave rise to thousands of global ‘eyes in the sky.’
FVEY October ‘first’ public meeting comes on the heels of the Australia-U.K.-U.S. Security Partnership hearing. Why now? Funding or to Frighten public to obtain support for US tech nuclear transfer? Right, co-production agreements.
Hmm, but not one word of concern over A.I or Climate Change? Let’s talk nuclear!
CIA reportedly stated that no evidence was found that Iran was weaponizing its nuclear facility. Former President Trumps’ warning of “fire and fury” appears to have had an effect on North Korea. Nuclear weapons testing reportedly ceased.
But watchful eyes were right to not mistake North Korea’s apparent cease and desist with incapability. Nor confuse one dynasty with another.
Americans, be reminded of your Independence Day fireworks – Bottle rockets are not sparklers. China’s production capability is so fierce that North Korea has it at the top of its list of trading partners. China certainly does not underestimate its neighbor’s powerful nuclear arsenal. Nor that of Russia and Iran.
Indeed the “Axis of Evil,” Iraq –North Korea–Iran, once proclaimed by former President Bush has been amended. But does it still stand that “Iran was just a “prop” needed to make a point…”
Trump called attention to DPRK’s ‘Rocket Man.’ Funny, a New Zealand ‘Rocket Lab’ had already made its way to the ports of California before 2016. Beck, gotta say I like your minimalistic thinking naming your Rockets ‘Neutron’ and ‘Electron.’ Just as long as your rockets have maximum power.
‘Rocket Lab,’ as to the shitload of jobs you have listed on the website, good luck finding applicants with STEM backgrounds in the States listed: Long Beach, California, Colorado, Maryland, and New Mexico. Best be sure you got plenty back home in Auckland to get those rockets built, strategically positioned south of North Korea and the South China Seas.
Elon, can’t say I didn’t warn you and Gates a few years back. Griffins was bound to look for another ‘golden boy.’ Right, under Trump, the Space Development Agency needed to develop rockets, and of course to build and operate satellites. By the way…
Starlink’s command relegated to Defense or did they find it best to leave it on your watch and not have a ‘communication’ hand in the Middle East conflict?
FVEY, sure China the bogeyman as you claim in your ‘red alert’? Whether you call yourself 5+1 or 3+31 as expanded NATO members, you are not alone. Use of technology, contractual or otherwise, is reserved not only for you. Without which you would exist not.
Right, it’s all about keeping that ‘prized jewel’ in your back pocket. Well, a lot has happened since I published, ‘Affair in Taiwan’ In the Year of the Rasky Rabbit! Keep on alert to witness entrance of a Dragon!
Impact in not taking us seriously? Ask Boeing. Tempting are we not! 🙂
